The trip to Alappuzha was not something I really had planned.. We were supposed to go to this place called Mararikkulam, actually to a resort run by cgh near the Marari beach, which was about 12 kilometers away from Alleppey.. We had planned to go on Thursday, but due to strike(read hartal) in Mararikkulam we changed our plans to go the next day. The national Painting camp started without us..
So on Friday, we took a train to Alleppey, got off at the station and took a bus to the jetty.. There was an ancient canal running through the city and hence the jetty. We boarded a second bus to our destination as I was about to sit down, I saw some I had to get a shot of..
It was small boat, seemingly abandoned, floating lonely in the canal..
The bus ride was fast as usual.. It took us almost an hour to get to the beach resort. I had no idea what to expect, but what I saw, kinda blew me away.. We walked in through security was met by the ever warm reception who asked us to wait to be taken to a friend of hours who was having his breakfast at the restaurant.. The slight drizzle made the place look ever more enchanting.. the wooden deco and the ambient lighting was perfect.. someone gave us umbrellas and led us to the restaurant.. walked on a wooden bridge over a small canal that was green.. the whole place was green as if the structures just grew up with the trees.. walked past another big building which was a wifi zone(which was like a welcome treat for me!).. We reached restaurant which was warm and huge and had a nice view to the pool and the huge lawn and from where you can feel the sea calling out to you.. We caught up with our friend who was running the show.. He invited us to breakfast and insisted that we stay for a couple of days, this he would constantly repeat.. and something we would constantly say no to, even if I wanted to stay.. lol.
We met most of the artists, some were my mom's college mates and others were friends.. All artists are by default friends for me :P so to speak.. and then after some more talking we let them do what they came there to do.. paint!! Since we were planning to leave in the afternoon, thought we would take a quick look at the ocean and the beach!!
It was worth it.. the place rocked..
I would recommend this place to anyone who has the money to burn, because it will be worth it.. if you want to go to this place you can check out their website for more details - http://www.casinogroupkerala.com/html/marari_beach.html
And so by afternoon, we left the comforts of the air conditioned cottages and shaded beaches, back on the trail home.. Our friend provided transport back to railway station where I took more photos waited for the train back home..
We took a train back closer to four and got home by eight..
you can find these pictures and more of them when they are added here in the gallery
